River Coal may seem like a simple concept, but its logistics are complex. The equipment used involved detailed engineering, and was constructed almost entirely by jerry-rigging parts and components together. This animation runs through the process of collecting coal from the Susquehanna Riverbed and processing it. Keep in mind that these were very small businesses; three people could generally run these operations. If you were to visit the Susquehanna Riverbed today, there would be no coal.
